On July 18, 2024, AJIN Georgia in Bulloch County’s Bruce Yawn Commerce Park, celebrated the grand opening of their new automotive metal structural parts facility. The first Tier 1 supplier for Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant America in Bulloch County will manufacture interior metal and structural parts. About 285 people attended including several AJIN executives, local and state leaders, and prominent guests who participated in the ceremony.
The gathering featured Jamie Calloway, HR General Manager at AJIN Georgia, CEO Onchung Gwon of HMGMA, delegates from MOBIS, officials from state and local governments, the Korean consulate, and much more. KBD Group (Design Builder), utility service providers, regional press, as well as delegates from Ajin USA were also present.
Inside the 853,000-square-foot facility includes many robots and over a hundred employees making parts for an all-electric Hyundai Motor Group crossover SUV. These parts include the main metal portions of a vehicle’s doors, dash, fenders, and floorboard.
After lunch, many of the guests took tours of the plant, getting a look of what a $317-million corporate investment in Statesboro Georgia looks like. When production begins, tractor-trailer trucks will haul parts from the AJIN Georgia plant to Hyundai Motor Group’s Metaplant America, in northern Bryan County about 29 miles down Interstate 16. Guests who took the tour saw hundreds of one-armed robots and the large stamping presses that exert up to 1,500 tons of force and the rolls of steel that feed them.
AJIN Georgia is located 30 miles west of the underconstruction Hyundai EV plant in Bryan County. According to a news release from Gov. Brian Kemp’s office, the company plans to hire 630 workers for the future 7 million parts factory.
“We are excited to be one of the first Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant America automotive suppliers to build an automotive parts manufacturing facility in Bulloch County and for our first plant in the great State of Georgia.
